The only good CAI is going to be a true CAI. Though technically not always cold air, as the ambient air may be warm, but anything is better than under the hood air.
And there is something you don't seem to realize. With a contour, you are only going to be able to fit so much pipe in there for an intake. Of course if you route it to the back of your car then back to the front, it's gonna affect you. But when building an intake, you're really not going to exceed the length that would harm you. I can back my statememnt by showing you pics of the few existing CAIs and how little room you have to work with.... you can back your idea with your opinion about pipe length,, I bet you even have some set number in your head for how long it can be.
