Steve has done some research.

If this is the one originally sold by SSautochrome, I believe it's manufactured by OBX...There is a bracket that connects the two flanges as shown in the photo for the JBA, in fact the header is almost identical. They originally auctioned these w/ a real pretty picture of a polished header, but these loose their bling real quick & would be better off painted to begin w/. $100 is too much for this particular one (if it is used)...I've also read that the ceramic coating on some of the cheaper headers is also a cause of cracking welds (causing the metal to retain heat longer). Most of the cracking on this type of shorty header is due to insufficient bracing of the collector flange & the downpipe adding pressure/vibration to this area.
Steeda has a real pretty one also...anyone know if thats the one mfr'd by JBA for them?

Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem.

I like this one the most: http://www.modernperformance.com/ford/focus_central_raceheader.jpg4-2-1, holes for EGR and o2 sensors already there,, too bad it probably won't fit without work to the downpipe, etc.

i thought the one with the pic that I showed was 4 to 1 header and that other one is...whatever the hell its called. Now that I think about it, all 4 cylinder headers are 4 to 1 oh well, anyone...which design type is better?

No, there's the 4 into 2 into 1, which gives the best low end torque (when compaired to the 4 into 1)
The race header 4 into 1 is what you've shown above. The one that is referred to originally in this post is called a "shorty" header & is supposed to bolt right on as the original manifold was retaining all factory emissions pieces parts...I guess it could be called a 4 into 1

SVZETEC,
Who makes that header that you have pictured? I'm really interested because with those flanges, it would be easy to adapt to the Contour.
BTW, I just wonder if that O2 location would hit the AC compressor.
>>EDIT<< Nevermind, I just found it. $225 is very tempting.

Thanks,
