What are the tunes you're using for testing and/or impressing someone with your new stereo setup?

I have found that Nelly "Tho Dem Wrappas" has quite a bit of bass. I use that a lot. I also have some bass test stuff. If you go on Kazaa or something like that...just type in "Bass Test" or something along that line.

To test imaging, it's hard to beat any of Diana Krall's CDs, the recording quality is amazing on them. Although these discs can exploit problems if you are familiar with them. I would not recommend this as an "impress your friends disc".

To test the transient ability of subwoofers, there are a couple of standby's. Metallica's "...And Justice For All" with it's double bass drum can really give subs a workout. Another is Telarcs 1812 Overture and the canon blasts. Organ music can be very dynamic as well.

To impress the friends, you'll probably want to use some modern hip hop.

One disc that surprisingly sounds good on almost every system is....i'm embarrased to admit this....Madonna's Immaculate Collection.

That's also a very good track to test imaging. You can come close to picking out the location of each guitar/person

DJ Dieselboy's CD "System Uupgrade"
All types (low, mid) of bass in it!! "Rolling" bass, quick hard hitting bass.... it's got it all!

I like the Eagles "hell freezes" CD as well, but my faves are:

Jacques Loussier Trio: Bach Book...
Awesome for separation and imaging... some incredible drum solos...

AL DiMaola, John Mclaughlan, and Paco DeLucia: A night in San Francisco..
Absolutely incredible Flamenco guitar work, amazing separation!

Pink Floyd :Dark Side of the Moon...
Need I say more?

Santana: Supernatural...
Very dynamic, clean recording.

Note: these are for SQ demos, not for bass... for bass, I stick to various rap and trance CD's...

FatBoySlim is a good one. Maybe ENYA, good variation of tone levels.
