I have a 99 contour SE with the I4 with a auto tranny. whenever i step on it there is a rattle/vibrating nosice comming from my car somewhere. it seems to be in the engine copartment but i checked all of it and it looks all tight. is there something that i missed. if this happened to you can you tell me what u did. thanks.

sounds liek it might be a heatshiled...check the one over the catlyitic converter.

i dunno if it's relevant at all but my dash right under my guages rattle when i accelerate hard....

I think that happens to all Contours.

thank you guys ill check it tomorow. its an outside noise. i stepped on it next to my freind and i could hear it outside the car.

i had the same noise but mine only happened when the heater was on and I pressed on the gas. And then it was only for a fraction of a second. Found out it was the drive (serpentine) belt and replaced it. All good to go now.

I found IT!!!! My air filter box came loose. does anyone know how to tighten it? and yes an intake is on the way soon.

air filter box is held in by two "clips"
just push down on the box and it should snap into place
if you pull it all the way out you will see where it clips in, it is in the area of the transmission mount

Is the hood of the car tight when latched ??? Mine needs adjusting sometimes . It will rattle at idle and at slower speeds . A big screw on each side of radiator support brace . The screw has a round rubber disk on top of it. Unscrew it to raise the screw and tighten the hood .
