Can they run OK on 89 or 87 octane gas?
Relative got a new (used) 2000 GP and wants to know.

no, it requires at least 93, but some people can only get 91 the higher the octane the less kr you will get

I'm guessing kr is knock retard. I dunno. Thats the only thing I can think of. When there is less octane the engine will ping, I think the knock sensor senses that and retards the timing which takes away horsepower and your running a little fatter. Sounds good to me

My mom has a 2002 GTP and she USED to put in 87 ocatane.....no problems.

Thanks, it is a 2000 GTP, red, in good shape. It isn't going to be drag raced for pink slips, so 87 octane is fine.

YOu can run 87 in most anything factory. Timing will just be retarded by the computer.

87 is not fine, read the owners manual it says nothing less than 91, being that it is supercharged it requires premium
