OP Pimpalicious316 Hard-core CEG\'er P Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 3,738 New Albany, IN	well, for about 2 months now my contour has been idling REALLY hard when in drive/reverse at a stop. it goes away once i put it in neutral or park. my mechanic said it was the timing belt, so we replaced it, and still does it. any ideas? ~Andrew 2001 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition 20 valves of fury

dan4 Newbie D Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 5	The condition sounds similar to a problem that I had with my wife's contour (97GL). At a stop in drive, the car would shake and rough idle. The wheel would shake mildly, and it would drive me crazy so much that I would put the car in neutral at a stop. In my case, changing the timing belt and timing belt tensioner fixed the problem. The mechanic told me that it was actually the tensioner (bearing was shot), but it made sense to replace both considering I was at 70K miles. Good luck.
