I read the other posts and they have great info on what type of replacement lights you all prefer and where to get them and how much they cost, but they also mainly covered the fog/driving lights. I would like to take a step back....
Question: Using the Sylvania SilverStar as the example on a 1997 Tour.
The low beams are 9006 and the high beams are 9005's. Can you put the 9005's in the low beam socket directly (do they work as a direct replacement) and will they work with the stock low beam wiring? Does one need to worry about heat damaging the lenses or anything else by doing this?
Thanks for the input.

Although I have not completed this mod, (and pls. someone jump in if I'm in anyway misleading) but 9005's are not a direct 'plug in' replacement for the 9006.
There is a tab on the 05's that prevents them from being installed in the low beam socket. With a bit of work (dremel or some other implement) simply remove the tabs from the 06 bulb.
From what I've read, the stock wiring system is adequate for the slight gain in amperage. Anything more will require upgrading relays and wiring.
Let us know how you like the results.

touredon is correct.
i have this mod done on mine and one of the 3 prongs on the 9005 needs to be clipped off to allow the bulb to twist and be secure to the headlamp.

That's interesting. I had no problem with the prongs, but I had to remove 2 small tabs from inside the bulb's connector....

I believe this only regards the pre 98s. Post 98s dont have to do any modifications iirc.
