I just got the bad news. I need to replace my cat. Since I am OBD2 I am being told it is going to be costly. What are the prices of these things like? I am being told somewhere around $500 can this be true? Is there an aftermarket one available? Thanks peeps.....

For all that you can probably get a Focus cat, street header and the work done on the downpipe since the Focus one goes straight back.

As an alternative, our affiliate exhaust shop chops out the stock one, replaces it with a new high flow Car Sound cat, bends a nice smooth exit pipe, then welds back to the stock exhaust. It's not the easiest of converters to replace but is replaceable.

I was quoted between $350 and $800 with everyone saying
that the Zetec cat is a rare one.
The $350 was Midas, and I'm not sure they read their books
right...
The cat itself from the dealer runs over $600

Make absolutely sure it's the cat. For me a faulty DFPE (sp?)
sensor caused a cat-related CEL error code, much cheaper
to fix.
Cat failure on these cars is rare AFAIK.
