I have a bad alternator and I am having trouble removing it. the question that i have is how to get out the top bolt? If anyone has any solutions please let me know.

Need more info...Is this a Zetec (4cyl) or Duratec (6cyl)?

if its on a zetec than you dont take the bolt out. move it out as much as you can and just simply lift the alternator out. The bold will not come out but it will come out with the whole alternator assembly. Also make sure that you disconnect everything.

anyone know where to buy a bigger alternator on the internet? i have a 4-cylinder

If you have a four cylinder the you have to get a jack stand and a block of wood.

You need to put that underneath the engine, then remove the engine mount of the top left side ( left meaning if your looking at it directly, not left meaning if your sitting in the car), remove that, release the tensioner, then remove the serpentine belt, then the alternator, then put it all back on in reverse order.

P.S. dont screw around to much, that is hard on the other engine mounts by not having all of them on.

I never removed any engine mounts when I took my out to get rebuilt.
It was a real PITA to remove and reinstall though.
