Hey everyone,
I lost my job doing tech support for AOL. I've been there for close to two years, and haven't been too thrilled working there. The company doesn't value anyone who posesses creative thought, or intelligence. Anyhow, they also have a knack for adding extra hurt to a firing. They fire in rounds, and usually on holidays, Fridays, or Fridays immediately after holidays in my case. It was the strangest feeling of my life. I walked in, found all of my belongings packed up in a box with a note from my supervisor that said "see me". When I went to see her, her first words were "Give me your badge and securID". SecurID's are used to keep the internal accounts secure.
Lately, I've been frustrated with work, there is no growth path, and the benefits suck. When she told me it was over, I had no reaction and was nice and personable to her and the other supervisor with her. The reactions from both of them. They walked me out, I asked for them to help me carry it to my car, as I have issues with my knees - the joys of arthritis at 21.
Anyhow, I managed to land a new job. One of my part time jobs - fixing macs took me on full time. So I now make more money, have less stress, and while there isn't much room where I am, it's a position where I make more money as I go. Things worked out nicely, but I have this odd emotional state.
I feel great because I am out of AOL. It's like leaving a bad relationship, you feel great, but there's something tugging at you saying that you shouldn't feel so good. I learned many things there, and am using it to my advantage. While I'll miss my many coworkers there, I will enjoy being 1/2 of my current employer. There are two employees of the company, the owner, and myself. Today, I sold three units, and completed repairs on four units brought in for repair. My new boss was impressed by how I handled the customers and everything.
