My boss' wife at my 2nd job works for the local Jaguar dealership. I started out just thinking about checking out the X-type, but I figured what the hell. I might as well drive an XK8 or even an XKR while I'm there.

Can we expect a full review? I always find it interesting to hear about other cars from the Contique perspective.

That's what I was planning on doing. She said I would be able to drive whatever I want. Her husband (my boss), suggested screwing with another salesman there (because he's an ass). Just to waste his time. But, I hate dealing with salesmen like that. Especially since I can't afford anything there anyway. I'll let you know how it goes.

the X type is nice, inside there are a few reminders of Mondeo parts. I sat in one at the Auto Show here in Chi.

I read that they drive nice, but are slower than SVT's since the AWD systme is a drag on the engine.

I considered the X type but it got terrible reviews. Check it out on Edmunds and you will see that they claim the X-type has too much ford influence. They said something about too much plastic and not enough leather to be a real Jag. There is also some issues about build quality but then the covered for that by saying that it was a pre-production version.

Update.... Well I only got to drive the X-type. It was the 2.5/manual. They didn't have the 3.0 w/ manual. I thought it was very nice, but not worth $35k. It seemed slower than my car, but that could be the effect of AWD. Jaguar claims a 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds. The seats were excellent. Great lateral support. It also had buttons on the steering wheel to answer a built in cell phone. Handling in the corners was very nice. It felt very balanced. It's got this ugly fake black wood across the dash, and it come with a tape player of all things. It did have a CD changer, buy who uses tapes anymore. The shifter had good feel as well. I think I would buy a 3 series BMW before I bought an X-type. I'm going to try next Monday to drive an XK8, didn't want to waste too much of her time. Overall, nice car just (IMHO) not worth the dough. Although it does come with a long list of options.

The x type is based on the contour so that should be intesting. My Mom has a 00 S-TYPE 4.0 with all the options. The car is encredible. The suspension is also incredible, it is extremely stiff, yet it isn't harsh. It can also be controlled by a button, along with the gearing of the car. My mom's jag redlines at 7000 rpm's, and that is incredible for an ATX(that is actually goes there before it shifts). Also, make sure you disable the traction control or the car will just about shut down if you tramp on it. Good luck

I c this is the bragging area. My dad had a 3.0 S-type and that was great. It was an ATX but cool. The engine is a version of the duratec. So all you SVT guys can almost say you have a Jag too. I saw an SVT today to and it was nice. Like the first time everytime
