anyone have any opinions on polk dx 5x7's? I recently bought some and think they are "decent" They are apparently the best speakers circuit city has, but i think I should be able to find something better. I dont really want to cut any holes in my doors or anything drastic like that. I get a discount at circuit city, so im trying to find something they sell. I am running the speakers with a 4 channel alpine V12 amp, and a newer alpine deck.

You probably won't get much better with a drop in speaker. Would you consider a subwoofer? It would make the most drastic difference in sound.

BTW,

What color is your car?

What specifically do you feel is lacking in your system? Would you consider a 6.5" component set? It would probably require a hole for the tweeter, but may give you the sound you are looking for.

Do you have aftermarket rims on your car?

no rims yet. I think its definately loud enough. It just doesnt seem to be very clear at high volumes. I know i need to dynamat it still, but i doubt that would effect the clarity. it seems like the mids are a washed out or muffled with alot of songs. One problem i think, is lack of frequency control on my head unit, but i still think it has some to do with the speakers. I had the EX series before, which i think sounded good, but wasnt NEAR as loud as the DX

Do you have a high pass crossover on the amp?

Are you using it? At what setting?

If it seems like the low end is causing problem move the high pass filter up.

btw, in case you were wondering, I was just trying to figure out if i have seen your car around.

I live in Marine City, MI. It's at 26 mile and the St. Clair River. The only mod I made to the outside of my car was hitting a guard rail at 65 mph. Needless to say, I don't have an SVT anymore... frown

If I were you, I would at least consider intalling a component set of some type in the front of your car. Leave the polks in the back.

I just drive an Omni or an Escort or '66 Biscayne depending on the weather.

I have the EX's in my car and I think they sound great for what I paid! But if you work at circut city I think they sell the polk momo series. all I have to say about those is WOW!!! and if you can get your discount you would be getting a good deal!

Good point, low tones. The momos are overated, over priced speakers, but if you can get them with an employee discount, they would be hard to beat. This is assuming that polks discount is as good as others.
