I'm considering relocating the battery to the trunk. One person on another website says that you should get a battery that has a higher CCA rating because it will be further from the starter and may not have enough juice to crank. He said his under the hood Optima battery would not start his car from the trunk and he had to buy some more expensive brand with a higher CCA.

I know from searching the CEG forums that many here use Optima batteries without the above problem. I just wondered what CCA you have, for those of you who have them in the trunk. AutoZone carries these in several ratings for around $100-$110. I think my stock battery under the hood is around 570 CCA.

Isn't CCA, cold cranking amps?! Why would that affect a trunk mounted battery?

A trunk mounted battery has to supply the juice along a further path and theoretically would need a higher rating to provide the same starting power as one under the hood, much closer to the starter.

Here is the link to the website where I read the guy had to buy a 1000 CCA battery because his stock one would not start the car from the trunk location: http://www.lextreme.com/battery.htm

I have an Optima red top in my trunk and I have never had a problem with it. In fact, I have accidentally left my lights on for an extended period of time and still my car started. That would never have been the case with my stock battery. Btw, I believe the CCA is 800.

I have never heard that before, A battery cable is little to no restince in it so I don't belive it would moving it would affect it. I relocated my battery to the trunk with and optima because the optima requires no ventiltion, an oem type battery releases hydrogen and oxygen and I don't exactly want that realased into my car! esecialy when charging it realases more!

Not true a 2 guage pos. cable has a .2 amp drop from the trunk to the engine bay. 0 guage would be ideal and even less than that.
