Not that I'm stupid or anything but am I missing something with taking out the factory radio. The damn thing won't come out. I checked and removed all the screws that I could see. Am I missing something here? BTW I am working without a manual. confused

There are 4 small holes in the corners of the HU. You need 2 small U-shaped tools to release the locking mechanism, and the HU will slide out. You can pick up the tools from Wal-Mart for $4, or you can make some yourself using a coat hanger.

For a newbie, I'd highly suggest a car stereo installation kit from www.crutchfield.com. They're vehicle specific and come with the removal tools, extremely detailed instructions, and all wiring harnasses you'll need (including the factory amp bypass that you'll want to use in your car). It'll cost $20 or so and be money well spent.

Nope, no bolts or anything. Occasionally, it really is a super pain in the a$$ to get it out, even with the tools.

Many on this board have taken to some tin snips as a method of persuasion.

I ended up getting mine out after 1 hour with a couple of coat hanger U's. Very frustrating.

Good luck.

That's kinda weird, for mine i took 4 nails pushed each side towards their respective doors, and it slid out.

Some come out with no effort, others have been pure hell for people...
