I thought I had read that 6x9's should fit the front doors without modification?

I have a set of Pioneer 6x9's and they DON'T fit. Now I'm not real stereo-fluent so maybe I missed an obvious detail, was it only the Kappa 6x9's that fit?

Argh, I guess I'm gonna have to return these...

Ummm, what Pioneers did you get? I'm about to get some this week, so I'd like to know. Thanks!

There is no modification to the door panel or door skin. There is, however, a spacer required in most cases. Make the spacer out of 1/2 to 3/4 inch mdf and it should fit. This is based on others who have completed the install. I have never done it myself.

That's exactly right - you probably need a spacer. I currently have 6x9 Infinity Kappas' in my doors, but these came with a separate 1/2" spacer.
I had a different pair of 6x9s that had a spacer glued to the front of the speaker. It wasn't too hard to remove the spacer from the front to use on the backside - just be careful to not remove the cone surround at the same time!

If you'd rather not go through all the trouble, then get the Pioneer 6x8 3-ways. Not as much bass as 6x9s', but very clean sounding. I've had 5x7, 6x8 and now 6x9 installed in my car. It is definitely worth the trouble to install the bigger speakers.

OK, I'll hit up Circuit City later today and see if they have spacers there. Thanks for the responses!

How do they ot fit? Is it the depth of the speaker hitting the window when it's down or is it the basket hitting the sides?
