I have been totally pleased for over 20k miles with the Mintex A/F brake pads and shoes that I purchased from BAT. They fall under your $$ considerations: http://65.109.103.142/files/cbrake.pdf

I have had a bad experience with EBC Greens. As I posted in the nearby EBC thread, these things are squeeling like crazy on my SVT with new rotors up front. Went through the bed in and all that jazz and after a few hundred miles the squeeling began. It is about to drive my batty. Talked to Tire Rack and they recommended I pull them of and replace with the other oem replacement pads they carry (can't recall the brand right now) because people with contours had been having probs with the greens. This is my experience, it seems others have been happy with the greens.

This is EXACTLY the route I went. Couldn't be more pleased.

Ditto, and at all 4 corners, but mine are still pretty dusty, and I've noticed a slight amount of squeal under light brake application (as when easing off the brakes as the car comes to a stop). It is hardly noticeable, except when there is no other traffic noise and the windows are down.
Function before fashion.

y'all need to use brake anti-squeek between the pads and the calipers. that has helped EVERY squeeling problem i've ever had with brakes, two VWs, a chevy, a honda, and the SVT.
some pads DO squeel more than others, but usually can be minimized by the rubberized anti-squeel coat.
you can find it in different varieties at all autoparts stores...

you're pads are supposed to be somewhat visible underneath your caliper right? If so, I think I can explain my squeeking problem
