code i got via that trick was: 46; Electronic Ignition - primary circuit failure coil 2

Are you sure you did this correctly, and read the code correctly?

You should get a 3 digit code.

Did the code repeat? Each code repeats.

With the MTX, did you get the 5-2-2 code to start?

Check out this info. It is my most up to date info for OBDI. However, codes only repeat once (they are displayed twice), and do not repeat twice as I stated.

An easy fix for the CEL light on a contour .... a black piece of tape placed over the light so you do not see it . Then forget it. Is your car running ok ? If it is not broken don't fix it . My cel light has been on for a year now . Still runs . Still gets 36 miles per gallon . 133,000 miles and 100 % original . Do not waste $ 5,000. fixing a $1000. car . If it runs ... BE HAPPY By the way , Ford has admitted that the computer CEL system is too sensitive on the mid 1990's fords. Here is a joke for you to get you in a good mood........ When do you find time to work , with all those posts you have in only a couple months.

i dont think i read the code correctly, i actually did it again and ended up with a 216-Primary circuit failure - ignition coil 2.
