No matter how good the commercial is/was, no matter how many times you run it, as long as you keep following it with the other Focus commercial where the guys parents steal his car to drive it, your car will never get any respect.
What teenager wants to drive a car his parents would like?
um let me say i am 17 and i don't like to drive my dad's car... i LOVE to drive it it is a 2002 corvette z06
ok first some backround my dad is a quality control person at fords chicago stamping plant(for the record if u want to get mad at him go for his boss's, he points out problems and they do nothing) one dad ford takes the display cars off the racks next to the big ford emblem infront of the plant and my dad parks his vette on it. and woundn't uy know it his boss gives him crap about it. ford also loves to give him crap about driving a chevy product and my dad simply tells him he has owned a cobra it was fun but not as much as the vette
sry for the long post it is just one of the funny ford stories i got, and i am not putting down fords i am about to be the proud owner of a 98 contour svt
Your Dad should know better. It doesn't matter which car is more fun. What he did was wrong, not funny.

"What teenager wants to drive a car his parents would like?" Spoiled teeny boppers got to realize who pays their bills and be grateful they get any car. The media is making a big deal about the SVT Focus ending. It's because the Zetec engine is dying this coming year, they have to make a new Hi-po Fopcus with the 2.3L Duratec four cyl. Which btw, is not a "redesgned Zetec".

So...it sounds like this could be a really positive thing, giving the SVT group a little breathing room to develop some new stuff.

The article clearly states they'll be back in 06.
Oh, I know what the article says, but man, you cant always believe what you read. Even though they say that it will be comming back, I really do feel that there is a good chance it wouldnt, contrary to what the article promises. -Nick

The trend lately is for auto manufacturers to come out with a peformance group, not to take it away. With most other manufacturers following Ford's lead with their own groups, it would be stupid for Ford to drop theirs right when Dodge, GM, and Mazda are coming out with their own groups.
Yes, Ford isn't doing well. And yes, SVT probably does lose money for Ford. But it's a loss leader. You take a hit on the performance cars to draw interest on your standard line of cars. The last thing Ford needs to do is take away any program that draws interest to the rest of the cars.
Ford is doing the right thing by saving resources for a year to prepare for a huge marketing blitz with 2 redesigned SVT vehicles in 2006 and a good possibility of an SVT Futura at the same time. It has the potential to be a huge coup for Ford if they can market all those vehicles correctly, drawing significant attention to their new Mustang, New F-150, and new Futura all at the same time. They can cover their entire line-up of sports cars, trucks, and sedans all at once.

I'm grateful that I have food to eat and a place to live, but I paid for my car, pay the insurance, tag/tax, and all repairs. So yeah, I'm grateful to myself for working my butt off to own a slow contour.
And I don't think your comment on the "redesigned zetec" is in reference to any previous posts on here, but if it is... I don't believe anyone ever said it was,,,, though the 2.0L Duratec used in the Focus RS in Europe is a redesign of the zetec.

The 2.0 and 2.3L Duratecs are all new, with design help from Mazda. It is not a Zetec that is updated, but a new engine family.
Check and see if any major parts are shared and you'll see it is not in any way, shape, or form a "new Zetec".

The 2.3L duratec PZEV is all new. The 2.0L used in Europe IS A REDESIGN of the zetec. I'm guessing you haven't even looked at it or information about it yet. Maybe you should. It has an aluminum block, a timing chain, and some other different things but is based on the zetec.

Yes, the 2.0 in the RS is a redesign, but the 2.0L 148HP four cylinder in the 2004 Mazda 3 and the upcoming 2005 Focus is the new Duratec family.
And no, it will not have the same bad waterpumps as the 1995-98 Duratec 2.5L V6! (someone actaully suggested this)
