"Our" first computer (my..) was a commodore 64.
HD
5.25 floppy (had to boot off one disk, then play on another)
all it had was qbasic..
I later bought a tape reader.. would store and read games/programs off a cassette tape. slow as hell..

I made so many programs on that thing...

My first program?

10 Print "Hello"
20 goto 10

That spaghetti code looks like BASIC I wonder if that old C64 was capable of printing "Hello" all of those times.. What is that, 5 or 6 bytes My favorite program on the old QBASIC interpreter was "Nibbles," and, as others have posted in the "Turbo" thread, as soon as I upgraded to a 90mhz+ Pentium, the game was unplayable

My first computer was the venerable TRS-80. Mmmm...monochrome...

After that, it was a rapid succession of Timex Sinclair, Color Trash-80, and then eventually a Zenith 386-SX16.

I can't believe that I paid about $3000 for that 386-SX. If you spent that kind of cash today, you'd have top of the line everything.

My first computer was:

Tandy 1000 SX
DUAL 5 1/4" floppies
RGB monitor
Dot matrix printer

I played many many hours of "rogue" or "hack" on it.
I also had a C64 with floppy and tape drive.
Ahh the days of "press play on tape" and coming back in 5 min to see if the program had loaded.

For some reason, things seemed so much more fun back in those days, when computers were simpler. Back then, getting your computer to do something cool like writing a program to play tones (via the internal speaker) whenever a document was finished printing, for instance, was totally awesome, or having your computer print e-mail that you would dialup and retrieve , or knowing someone who knows someone that knows the phone number for a dialup BBS that you could download and contribute to threads like this off of, etc.

Now you look around, and there are unlimited possibilities yet the majority of us leave them wasted. Sure, the internet as we know it today has been around for a while, but exactly how long have popular search engines like yahoo and google.com been around for us to easily access that information ? Does anyone even remember ever using gopher ?

I think the old addage, "Too much information is wasted information.." is very true in these days
