Why is it that on the 98 computer (chip programming) you do not have the option to adjust the Final Drive Ratio, but on the 99 you do? I am pretty much stuck with an incorrect reading Speedo, due to this anomoly. What gives? Is there anyone out there with any idea on how to correct my speedo so it reads the Zetec FD correctly?

It looks like I am walking the line alone! =-) I will consider myself a pioneer and leave it at that. If the little speed monitoring thing by my house is right, my speedo is off by 5mph at 60. My speedo reads 65mph at 60mph. Here is a question that someone may know. It this an error that will remain constant, or will it be a percentage of actual speed? Will it change with different gear selected? C'mon all you brainiacs, give me input. I don't care if you are not sure, let's do some speculation. I think it will be a percentage based on the Final Drive gear so it will remain a constant percentage throughout the gearbox.

You could change tire size to match.

What size rim and tire are you running?
If you are running stock rim and tire then you probably have a piss poor calibrated speedo. I have already covered why the final drive should not change the speedo! Ask yourself why the Zetec FD speedo gear is the same part number as the duratec final drive?????
Read the part in the sticky at the top of this forum about final drives on OUR type of front wheel drive transmission and why the zetec FD doesn't need calibration. Yes I know the computer has a slot for it but it isn't necessary. I found my own speedo with stock tires was off by 3MPH at 60MPH and that was with the duratec FD, so I have no trouble believing that you could be off by 5mph.
BTW, it should be a percentage and not a consistent 5mph. If you are running the stock rims and tires then you can pull the lens of your instrument cluster and pull the needle off your speedo. Then while having it run a constant speed on the dyno, you can put the needle back on.
I did it on a back road believe it or not! First I calibrated my analog tachometer with the computer scan tool so that 3000 rpm on the tach was exactly 3000 on the computer. Then I calculated the speed in each gear using stock tire height at 3000 rpm with a spreadsheet. Then I cruised in 3rd gear at 3000 rpm and pushed the needle on. I had to do it about 3 times until it was accurate, but that was because I was driving!!! Anyway, it worked great. Now I am only off by about 2mph at 85mph.

Well Tom, I know better than to argue with you, so i will just present the facts as I know them. My Speedo is off substantially (5mph or more) now and it was not off before the trans change. I don't know. I don't claim to be an Engineer. Keyser, thanks for the help. I will run right out and get myself some big Chrome Dubs.

Interesting. Nothing is impossible. Are the tires stock or not?

Mine shows about 9% error...I got clocked at 75 when my cruise was set at 69. I just mentally adjust for 10% of error when I'm driving, and chalk it up to the 225/50-16s on a car that originally had tall tires on 14" rims. It's only an issue when I'm on open road anyway.

No, not stock, but the overall wheel diameter was spot on within tenths. I will try the other local speed enforcement device and report back. =-)

Once again Tom, I have learned not to doubt you. I found a 2nd and 3rd speed enforcement device and both tell me that my speedo is only off by 2-3MPH. This is easily explainable by the tire size change and poor quality of American gauge calibration. With the Zetec FD, the car feels like it wants to drive at 90 all day long, so I assumed that I was not traveling that fast. I guess I'd better slow down, huh? With that said, why in the hell does the 98.5 and greater ECU have the adjustment for the FD? That makes no sence at all... It seems to me that Ford would have had to pay real dollars for a tech-geek to add that feature. We all know that Ford (and all other majors) like to decontent, not to add unnessecary stuff... Help a CEG'r to undertand.

Perhaps the software I have just didn't include that. The newer the EEC the more options. Doesn't mean that your computer doesn't control the speedo.
