does the radio cut out too? if not, you may be causing your CD player to "skip" from all the bass... no $hit also, could be overheating - are you noticing it during extended play, or right from the get go?

Sounds to me like you're overdriving the deck's internal amp. Maybe heat too. Might want to check your wiring and other stuff around the deck and make sure the radio is able to dissipate as much heat as possible. Or, you could get yourself a nice amp (my personal choice). In reality, any head unit will only put out 15 watts rms per channel. With an external amp, you'll notice a big difference at all volume levels too. Better dynamic range, more powerful bass, more volume.

An amp definately sounds like the way to go. Can anybody make any reccomendations? I just want to drive the 4 6x8's and mayyybe add a woofer, but not for a while. Also want to keep it as inexpensive as possible. Thanks.

As mentioned by everyone else here on the boards, your best bet would be to purchase an amplifier. You say you want to keep it as inexpensive as possible, but you may want to add a sub later. Well, a five channel amp is not going to be cheap. So, you can go with a 4 channel and use channels 1 & 2 for your front stage and wire channels 3 & 4 to your rear fill. This will relieve the stress off your head unit. When you decide to get a sub, you could wire up channels 3 & 4 brigded to your sub while wiring your rear fill to your head unit. You can pick up a decent 4 channel (4 x 75 watts) amplifier with built in crossovers for $400.00 or less. If you decide you want to spend a little more, you could always stick with the 4 channel to power all four of your 6 x 8 and then when you decide to add the sub, purchase a dedicated 2 Ch. amplifier for the sub. The choice is yours. Shop around the internet and you'll find a decent amp to suit your requirments. Just remember, buy as much power as you can afford. If you find a (4 x 100w) in your price range, pick it up. Your speakers will love you for that. You don't want to under power your speakers. Hence, over drive your new amplifier into distortion. Then you'll end up blowing your speakers all together and have a whole new set of problems and expenses. Remember, your speakers love clean power.
Other individuals on the boards will have ideas for you as well. If you need anymore advice, just post. Someone will help you out.
Take care,
Ryan

Here are some options From uBid: Lanzar Vibe 50x4 Profile 75x4 Legacy 37.5w x 4 (RMS) Any of these offer good performance for the dollar but none are going to wow you with incredible performance. Just competent reliable power and when installed and set up correctly, they could sound pretty nice. Here are some used amps that would present a big sound improvement with a little more money (it will also be used) a/d/s/ PH15.2 50w x 6 i'll post more in a few...

Take a look at these: Clarion AP-A4204 Profile 440SX Kenwood KAC-748 USAcoustics USX-4065 Just some ideas for you. You should be able to find better prices on these amps if you search around the internet for a while. You should be able to pick up a decent 50x4 amp for around $150. Getting a more powerful amp for those Pioneer coaxials would just be overkill.

PPI A404 I wouldn't suggest over powering your speakers. When you do, you have to be very careful with them. Play for too long at too loud of a volume and you will start to warp the speakers VC. Distortion doesn't kill speakers, heat does.
