Guys: I did do a search, but could not find a definitive answer on this question.

Is the 2000 V6 waterpump plastic or metal? If it is plastic, has there been any failures with the new revised plastic impellar?

Sorry for another waterpump question but I need to know if I should look at doing mine down the road. I have 38K now so I have a little time.

Thanks.

You've got a 2000, so I expect you have the upgraded plastic pump installed in your car from the factory. I have the original factory installed upgrade pump in my 1999 SE V-6 with 58,000 miles on it. No hint problems thus far, the temp is holding at a very low level - even in the warmest Florida weather.

Thoughts about a replacement pump have been put on hold for now. The new plastic pump has been shown to be much more reliable than the old plastic, and the metal impeller pumps have been know to have bearing or seal failure. I'll wait it out & likely buy a new plastic impeller pump next year sometime.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I have 47K on my 00' CSVT and haven't had any problems so far [knocking on wood right now ] I did cbange the coolant at 30K though, even though it says to do the first change at 50K, why wait I remember reading about the w/p on the M3's having the same problem and one thing thats said to help those cars is to keep the coolant fresh because it removes any acid build up in the coolant, somethig to think about Also I added a bottle of waterwetter at 6K and again at 30K after I had the system flushed. I believe in that stuff completely as my CSVT runs cooler than any other I've driven or checked out!

I don't believe any waterpumps from the factory were metal.

Metal available aftermarket only.

That's what I understand. BTW my SVT build date May '98 had the newer (offwhite) impeller. I've never read about a problem with the newer style, only the old (black) ones.

I don't remember seeing any posts re; metal impeller pump failures. I haven't had any problems with the two I installed. The pump on my SE has about 10K miles on it now.

They sell it most of your local autoparts stores, I get mine from Pepboys. Its basically an additive that goes into the cooling system and helps it run cooler, it really works, but you still wanna make sure the coolant is fresh, thats really the most important thing you can do, the waterwetter just makes it that much more effective. As far as price goes, expect to pay about $7.00 or so for a bottle, its kinda of a pink color, so its easy to find
