No, but came REAL close shallow diving off of Bahia Honda in the Florida Keys. I distrubed one that was completely covered in sand and silt. I was almost over the top of it when it split, leaving me wondering what in the hell just happened. One second I had 40 ft. of visibility and calm waters, the next ZERO vis and felt a moderate amount of turbulance.
When we got visibility back, I could see that my friend's eyes were wide as saucer-plates behind his mask and he told me to surface ASAP. Come to find out I scared up a ray that must have been 8-10 ft. tip to tip and just about got speared in my chest by his tail. I'm glad I didn't see any of it, as I would have had a biological mess in my wetsuit, front and back and probably wouldn't dive without chainmail...
How long have you bee surfing? I just picked it up a few years back and will be doing some in Costa Rica in about a week. I'm still a rank amateur as short boards still give me problems. I'm more of a long board wanker. The worst I've ever suffered while surfing is board rash and getting nailed in the back with my board...
