Get in contact with bk4293 , he has his wired in so it shut off when the car if off and on when on. He did a pretty clean job of it too, it should look good.

Mines wired into the fusebox so it goes on and off with the car. I don't move it in and out of other ars but I did go buy one of those cheap Y adapters to cut up and wire in so I didn't have to cut the actual power cord for the radar detector. My detectoor sits on the right hand side of the mirror and I ran the cors down the driver side pillar out of sight from all on lookers.

I've got it by george... just buy a cordless detector. that will solve all your problems.
