The factory amp is well worth it if you are in the market for paperweights, otherwise, pull it out, it's located behind the glove box and is very simple to remove, you can buy a bypass kit or just make your own harness, you will get much better sound without it.

First, it accepts high level inputs that are often more noisy than low level. Second, the stock external amp can only handle so many volts input. Any more, and all the amp can do is produce distortion. So, it's a lose, lose situation. If you don't believe us, hook it up with the amp first, then without. You will notice a difference.

plus u can't use a head unit with an amp along with another amp, namely the factory amp. they will probably blow each other up. good luck, just resauder all the wires to bypass the amp.

Here's another reason... - Factory amp = about 50 watts peak power per channel
Alpine deck = 60 watts per channel.
BTW: Good choice on decks. You'll be very pleased with it. I have the 7876 and it rocks my world (don't tell my wife ).

I have the amp bypass harness from Crutchfield. However, when I got my stereo installed, I did not have the harness installed. They stated that whenever they do a system where there's a factory amp, they use it. It seems to sounds fine. I have a Sony CDX-M620. I've heard the amps in Sony HU's aren't especially good and that's part of the reason for using the factory amp. Will I truly get better sound by bypassing it?

I have an older Sony HU that I took from a previous car. It sounded good in that car (now I'm not using it for power).
It sounds like your installer was lazy. it may sound fine, but if you have no comparison, the HU alone will sound even better.
