Now, for a real answer. If you want to gut your cat. then you don't want to just gut it. You want to put a test pipe in its place, meaning just a straight piece of exhaust piping in its place. You could crack open the cat. and put it inside the cat. and weld it back together for a stock appearance.

1st off are you talking about the main cat or the pre-cats because they are different. if you are talking about the manin cat then ok. If not then the pre-cats will loose there stock look because they have no welds. 2nd if you do this to the pre-cats i can't see how it would help unless you have a prooven flow chart for this because i can't think of anyone dputting a straight pipe inside the pre-cats.

No. The thing is I THINK (sorry again for the previous post) that I have two cats (now I do) one main and one precat. I wanted to try and gut the precat and leave the main one on. The question was how many of these precats (if any) do I have and if I do have any where are they? I don't even know how to do a flow chart so you've lost me there.

I would think since you only have one exhaust manifold, that you have one pre-cat. Search the zetec performance forum. I'm sure its been covered on there.

1st off not every contour is a duratec.
obsidian::: LISTEN: you have one cat. that's it. no precats. you have a catalytic convertor, it attaches to the exhaust manifold. It's in front of the engine, THAT IS IT.

No sh!t but he is asking about pre-cats and not the main cat so why the hell are u telling him to put a straight in the cat when he wants to know about the pre-cats.

I can't tell if you're being serious with the smileys. But in case you still don't get it, zetecs don't have precats.

Thanks. That is all I needed to know. Now one last question and please don't take this the wrong way. If I took out the only catalytic converter under the exhaust manifold and put a straight pipe there ( not done yet) and then proceed to putting a high flow cat UNDER the car in place of the resonator.... whaddya think? Think moving the cat will do anything? Or do you think i should just put a high flow cat where the stock one is?
