I am thinking about doing this. How many hour job is it to remove the manifolds? A local guy told me the alternator has to come off and the whole bracket. Also does anyone have a link on how to make the o2 simulators?

They don't need to come off the car. If you want to do it right then yes they do. I had mine cut apart, gutted, smoothed and rewelded. The alt doesn't have to go anywhere so whomever told you that is F.O.S. The MIL eliminator stuff can be found by a search so I'm not searching for you.

The how to's for the mil eliminaters and gutting the pre-cats are both linked on the forums. Search back a ways and you should be able to find them.

If your not one to make the MILS they can be bought from Dallas Mustang for $70.00. They come complete with male/female connections, so its a simple plug in deal. They're not listed for the Contour, just tell em' what year car you have and you'll be all set BTW, I have them an no problems.

Very entertaining. (And informative, too. I love pictures.)

Maybe if you ask it nicely it won't

This is one of those things you don't want to half ass. Yes, if you don't get all of it out, there is a very good chance it will be sucked back into the engine, which is very, very bad. Alot of people will tell you you can leave them on the car, and even not remove all of the catalyst material. But, IMO, if you're not going to do this mod right, don't do it, as it can end up destroying your engine.
