I didn't think they were THAT bad, but now that you mention it, they do seem be rather sizeable chunks out of the rear quarter panel.

As a member of the Corvette demographic, I can attest that my hands don't resemble the size or shape of a bucket scoop on a backhoe, so I don't see the need for that gaping of an opening...
