I'd just fix the current problem...I've never had to deal w/ inspections though, but they don't sound like fun.
The book value always sounds good, but unfortunately is never realistic. Taken into account that you are considering an Audi, they especailly won't give you trade-in (of course, I don't know whether your Audi dealer is also a Ford dealer...different story altogether) they have no market for it, & ultimately(possibly) they would have to send it to auction...so thats even less than wholesale. Just another aspect of the trade-in game.
You're also dealing w/ the time of year now...unless you can pass it off as an SUV
