Not saying its going to happen, or comparing the two, but look at the aftermarket for muscle cars for instance. Its all about supply and demand, and actually buying something everyones been clamouring for

I wouldn't be surprised if SHO shop closes its doors......we have to admit our cars (including SHOs) are huge aftermarket players, and that is a fact...

When I had my motor built by SHOSHOP back in January, Vadim had said that SHOhsop will eventually dissappear, and while my car was there, the rest of the guys had BMW's and MB's on their racks. And here's a kicker, Tom drives a 540i, and Vadim drives a C32 AMG....Unfortunately, our cars our dead, no money to be made in them. The last Contour was built in 2000, last SHO in '98, and we're in 2004 now. I know Vadim well enough, and I like him, he'll tell me like it is, but it's Tom that I think needs some help with customer relations. Even Vadim told me not to put more money into my Contour and get a BMW, but I like my car and it's paid for, so I went ahead with the 3.0.

Yes, no more aftermarket support for our cars.

I would say, no more aftermarket support from those less committed.

You have to realize, just like us SHO guys realize. Its a Contour first. Just like a SHO is a Taurus first. Bottom line is there is no huge demand for aftermarket/performance parts for these cars. And will only continue to get worse as time goes on. Its a fact. Committed = People with a lot of money and time. MOST people in that category will not have Contours...

I hear what you're saying, and yet, BAT still serves Merkur and Fiesta enthusiasts, because it fits with their business plan and "core competency" of using their connections to acquire european parts for US Cars.

There are quite a few people taking care of Merkur owners, actually, and let's face it. They're just Fords.

Yes, some vendors will drop off, and reallocate resources to "the next big thing." Others will remain to occupy the niche. Different competitive strategies.

I would hardly consider BAT and Rapido and OPMD "quite a few people". All three of which charge ridiculously high prices for everything, and none keep very much in stock.

Some of you guys need to grow up and realize that supply and demand actually works, and as demand drops (from a level that wasn't terribly high to begin with) supply must drop too. The $$$ just isn't in contour performance parts anymore (not that it was ever a very lucrative business)

Some people also need to grow up and realize that one vendor leaving doesn't mean they ought to sell their car.

Three major vendors for a car that hasn't been sold here since 1989, is basically ugly and unknown except to the most staunch enthusiast, and of which far fewer examples ever existed in the US.

Supply and demand? I'd say the Contour has plenty of demand. I'm not whining about the small aftermarket. I'm saying the herd is being culled. And maybe that's a good thing. The mass-market chasers will leave. The niche-marketers will stay. That's how supply and demand works in the real world.

It does when one of the MAJOR vendors leave. I mean you set up a group buy and you have 100 people screaming they want something. When it is time to pay you may get 10% at best. How is a company to survive?

Now I hate America? That is a new one to me.

I don't know about your car, but mine looks damn good. Everytime I order from BAT, they have what I want and it ships quickly. I ordered a rear strut brace on Monday 11/17 and it came today 11/20. That's pretty damn good. It's a real pisser when supplers drop off, but we have to keep going with what and who we have. The half dozen or so major suppliers and the CEG'ers who do work for the rest of us just have to pick up the slack. So far, I'd say they're doing a good job. Just my .02.
