Mine was covered in NH under the 8/80,000 federal warranty. The car was purchased in ME. I thought most New England vehicles were CA emissions.
I can recheck the warranty info that came with the car, but I remember reading that all 2000 Contours got the 8/80 regardless of state.

Well they called me back (Waltham Ford that is) and the part number is F8RZ-5G232-BC, I am on the line now with Duddie/Herb Chambers to see what they say, unfortunately the middle part of that does not match 5E212, 5G218, 5F250....Herb Chambers said that it isn't covered under either the emissions regulations or under the ESP and that it is also a Catalytic converter....
They said that if I had "Federal Emissions" then it would be covered under 8/80,000 but since I have California emissions it isn't covered...Duddie told me to call Ford Quality Care and complain so that is what I am off to do.
Thanks again for the help

Hey Cueball, so they covered it in Newhampshire? do you know how much the part cost? they are telling me about $340 for just the part and then additional labor....could I bring it into a NH stealership and have it done for free (I am guessing no as it is liscenced in Mass).
Thanks, if they give me a major headache about this then I am 100% sure that this car is out the door...hopefully I can get a good trade in for it with the ESP.

I'm checking the warranty manual right now. Mine was covered since it is registered in NH. It depends where the car is registered (CA, NY, MA, and VT are not covered). Then there is a big chart of what would be covered by 7/70. The cat is covered on every engine size, except the 2.5L Contique. I still haven't figured that one out.

Part of the problem is that you willing brought your car to Duddie. The best Ford dealer in Central Mass is Lamerouex in East Brookfield. I little drive for you but they do exceptional work and are willing to slide small things past (not that you need to slide this past since you SHOULD be covered under the cat warranty). Most of the sales reps and mechanics are weekend race/draggers and those that aren't are avid auto enthusiasts.
They installed my Eibachs, ST200 Struts, and all the bushings, ball joints, endlinks that I had supplied for $400 WITH the alignment! They are the only Ford dealer I will willingly bring my car to.
Good luck! Oh and welcome back to the area, hope to see you around!

Actually, I brought the car to Waltham Ford since I moved closer east, however I must say Duddie went out of their way to try and help/get answers, Greg in the service dept was very helpful and I am somewhat shocked by a stealership actually trying to help when you openly tell them you took the car somewhere else.
I called basically everyone on this including the Ford hotline and the best they would do is pay 60% of the repair. They said in mass there is no "sliding" for issues such as this as I believe someone stated above or in a previous emissions thread and that once you pass your warranty they are tough as nails on what they will and won't pay for...
and not to sound haughty but Lamoureux is over an hour and twenty minutes from where I live, given that I work M-F 7:30-4:00pm I just don't see it being feasable...they could all be nuclear physicists who decided to say screw their PhD and work on cars instead there is still no way I could justify driving that far during a work week for service unless they were paying my salary and also the cost of the repair.
Thanks for the advice though.

Alright man...good luck with Duddie! Why bother checking around if your not willing to drive an hour to get the work done for probably nothing. You have to get them done in order to pass inspection in the state so go ahead and spend the $750 at Duddie.
The last time I went to Duddie looking at cars for my fiance, the two outside sales reps were sitting in a brand new Lightning with the engine idling and the A/C cranked. When they approached us, they left the truck idling in the lot....Wouldn't want to be the guy who buys that truck!
Make sure you photograph your car before it goes in...

Oh and I probably wouldn't start each conversation with the services departments advertising all of the local dealers that have turned you away.
