What technically is happening to a spark plug wire as its wearing out? how does wire become less conductive? is the skin of the wire itself carbonizing or something?

It's insulation break down. The main problem is acring or shorting to ground, especially in the boots. Plug wire failure from the conductor core breaking down has pretty much been a thing of the past since the early 70's when plug wires were upgraded when cats were introduced. Cats don't like misfires.

Any update on these ??

Ever since I installed the FMS wires, I seem to be running a little rich.

I bought these Autolite wires at Autozone and they worked fine in the '96, I think that's what I used in the '95 back when I changed the plug wires on that one too...

I have run the AL Pro's for well over 30K and I am just now noticing a rough idle and poor gas mileage.

So, just for the sake of argument, I figured I would buy a set of FMS 9MM wires and take some Ohm measurments before install. I will then take measurements every 10K afterwards. Once these die on me, I will purchuse another set of AL Pro's and do the same.

How's that sound?
