there are also several visual and orated references to angels in the last movie. when agent smith knocks neo out of the sky he sits there and lightning strikes... the outline of two wings behind smith is made... also check out neos shadow when he stands up. then when he dies.. hes in the crucified position and the metal deck that caries him away in neovision (the orange view) looks like an angel.. there's a lot more

This movie was a great movie for its religous references that are constantly brought up throughout the movie. I would like to say that this movie leaves alot to be resolved in questions that you are faced with in a day to day basis that only you can answer. The movie is takes the battle between good & evil; heaven & hell; Angels & Daemons; to a whole new level in the third installment. When neo is carried off on the machine transport in the crucified position as he is looking at the machine in his new vision it appears in the shape of an angel taking him into the light in which you are assuming that he dies shortly after to be rejoined with trinity in the after life. This is all assumptions because this movie is set to make you ask questions, discuss and wonder about what could be and what might have been. This movie is a master piece in the way that it ties the other two movies together throughout the religous backdrop(birth-death-resurection-death).
The movie good and evil plot seemed to enveloped at the end as if the machines where the battle ground the heaven's on which satan(fallen angel aka mr smith) fought the arch angel gabriel (neo) in the ultimate battle. With the heavens being devided in the final battle that banished satan you would have the ones that stand neutral and are out for their own interest's such as the frenchman and the renegade programs. You would also have the ones that have sided with the good side (gabriel and god) such as the oracle and her guardian programs. You would also have the ones that have been currupted by satan and turned into daemons much like mr. smith and his dark army.
