Actually it's the opposite. The model I own, CDA-7876, doesn't really have much more feature-wise than the model 3 steps down. The only really noticeable difference is the TV tuner and the ability to change the color from green to red. The CDA-7875, for example, has every other feature including the Bass Engine Plus, swing face mechanism, 4V dedicated sub out, BBE, 60Wx4, Title memory, and it looks just as good. The major difference is the quality of the internal components rises as you get better HUs in Alpine's line. For example, Alpine's flagship F1 deck costs over $3500 MSRP. It doesn't have a flip down face, and it looks like a cheap version of my deck. The internal components, however, are state of the art, which is what you're paying for. The 7875 should cost you around $300. The model that looks similar but is green (can't remember the model #) also has the same features and costs even less. I'm not trying to push anything on you, honest, i just have had such good experiences with Alpine's HUs in the past.

Hey Honkey! You been smelling to many shat-on stock HUs? Actually, Honkey, I was considering an alpine HU, but I wanted an MP3 deck, and the alpine is a fortune. Since that left me with only the Sony, Kenwood and JVC (the clarion wasn't out yet) I decided to go with the JVC. It's got a two year warranty, looks really nice, has all the features I wanted (and more) and I got a good deal on it. As for your remarks about my nutsack, it takes one to know one. SVTimulate -- I'm not sure about prices, as I am only familiar with Canadian prices, but if I use an exchange rate of about 1.5 to 1, it seems to be a good deal. Check around for the best prices. At first I was dedicated to getting the MP3 Alpine deck, but after realizing I don't have a computer, and in the hick-hole I live in neither does anybody else, I went ahead and bought the third from top of the line instead. Next year I'm getting the MP3 deck unless there is a better format available by then. The Canadian dollar sucks. The Lambda Acoustics PL Dave fooled me into buying was $200, which ended up being $327 CDN. Ouch! It's the same with HUs only worse. We end up paying for transporting them across the border. A $300 HU usually costs around $550-$600 here (although only a sucker would pay the asking price for a new HU) And BTW Brian, you are the stupid head!

I did a search and was only able to find the speaker wire after amp to speakers. Help, help.

I probably have the wiring diagram to bypass the factory amp from Crutchfield when they shipped my HU, would that help? I could scan it in when I get home.

Hey Matt,
I got the bazooka from Circuit City. It was on last week's ads. Limited quantity... maybe you can get them to do a location check for you to see if they still have any. Model: EL8A, 50watts self-amp. 8".
It'll be cool if you can scan the diagram later. Thanks man.

Scanned the diagram for the bypassing the factory amplifier. While you might not have the adapter, it will tell you what color wire goes where and you can customize your settings as necessary. Diagram I highly recommend gettin ANY aftermarket HU and bypassing the factory amplifier. My 3 year old Pioneer smoked the factory HU/amp setup. Now I just need the sub...and some Infinity's in the doors...and...and...and... Good luck.

Thanks for the diagram. Do you know if the crutchfield instructions have a diagram of the square gray speaker wire from the back of the stock HU to the amp? it kinda looks like this: -------- -EFGH- -ABCD- --------

Obviously it's the four pairs of wires for the speakers, maybe AB is front left; CD front right; EF rear left; GH rear right? Where ACEG is positive, and BDFH is negative? All guesses here.

The square abcd/efgh connector is the low-level output from the stock HU to the stock AMP. From the amp, there is a more rectangular connector which contains the speaker leads into the doors.
If you're bypassing the crap-tory amp, then you don't even need to bother with that connector. I just left it in behind the new HU and kept it connected to the amp (it's a b1tch to get out of the amp).
And remember -- only YOU can prevent Honkeytonk Monkeys. Use a condom.
