a short while back I posted a message asking about a good CD player for cheap... Well I ended up getting one for free. Story: my brother had a 1996 VW Jetta GL, very nice car, my brother is the best driver I know. Well while at school on a rainy night soe guy in a 97 grand am broadsided him and his car hit a telephone pole. "the car looked like a taco" to quote my brother. Anyway, I asked him about his JVC CD/MP3 player in and he said "the funny thing about that, is the CD player didnt skip once through the entire accident." So he took out his stuff and I expect him to give it to me as a birthday present (December 3rd ^_^). my question now, where can I find instructions on how to install an aftermarket CD player? Is there a site I can go to where I can specifiy the model number and everything and they will give me in detail instructions?

Thank you all.

What's your car? Do you have the Ford "Premium" Audio system?

If so, you'll need an amp bypass kit, available from Crutchfield.

Otherwise, you'll need a wiring diagram for the stock Ford wiring harness (there are a few on this site... just search around), as well as a diagram for the JVC head unit.

As far as the physical install goes-

That's the Crutchfield Master Sheet for the Contours.

Enjoy!

Spend the $5 for a wiring harness from Wal-Mart instead of chopping the factory harness. It'll save you far more than $5 in aggravation and trouble.

Pull the old one out(use coat hangers for the radio removal tool), connect the wiring harness(available from crutchfield), slide the new on in. Easy as pie.

For what the harness will cost from Crutchfield you can buy the harness ($5) and the removal tool ($5) (so you don't need to mess with coathangers) at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart doesn't stock many harnesses, but they stock the Ford one..

yeah dude when it comes to audio as a general rule i always say never buy anything from wal-mart or even circuit city or best buy for that matter. but when it comes to dash kits, and wiring harnesses, one is just as good as another, so go ahead and stop buy the nearest wally world. the harness is equal quality as one sold in a custom audio shop. now when it comes to wires(ground, rca, speaker, remote) i dont know if i'd trust wal-mart as much

Best Buy is like 1 out of 10. They are for like $200 systems or less, they aren't anything like pro's, I got many friends that work in Stereo shops, and they can also vouch for me that you dont go to Best Buy for Highend, or even medium stuff. Contours are something you don't take to Best Buy, unless you want it half assed. They have the right plugs, like most places do, but when you look at all the ford premo plugs they have, they have like 4! you just need to know the number, and I have never had a bad time getting plugs for the tour. I got two sets, one for my 95, and one for my 99, the 99 i got the plugs at best buy, the plugs for the 95, i got from wally world. You just gotta know the plugs, the ones in my friends csvt he got from crutchfield, same plug, same price. you just gotta know what your looking for.

I wonder why you wouldnt' go to Best buy..... maybe cuase They dont' carry it??? hmmm the Fosgate HE2 is the only mid level highend sub carried. And if you don't think that Most Best Buy installers arn't Pros i really beg to differ..
One of my fellow installers went to Mobile Dynamics for 2 months. Myself and Another is MECP FIrst class INstallers and the other 2 are mecp Basic. And i can Do all the work that they can but i would like to get paid for sitting on my ass and not have to worry if there arn't any cars i don't get paid...

Sorry about my rant.. But i don't go to Red Lobster and tell them that they don't good Seafood cuase there not Pros? Becuase there not on the coast or there a mom and pop store.

And not to be a Ass but a Contour isn't some fabulous car to work on. We have put Alarms and Custom Systems in Everything from a 512TR to Classic Benz to numerous H2's...
Sorry about the Rant and i know not all best buys are like ours. Maybe thats why where #1 install bay in the district every Month.
