Thanks Todd (also). Well on "Link 2" Thread, Big_Jim is saying: "Yellow-Ford's new long life coolant-hybrid conventional with OAT." I won't bother any more. I'll put GREEN stuff and let you know what happens.

Hmm the yellow is news to me. Must be within the past couple years haven't seen it in anything but I did a search and it exists. You have green unless the previous owner recently changed it.

Oh NO! I'm where I started I'll have to pour some coolant out to find what it is. Maybe the reservoir translucid surface is playing with my eye.

Well new waterpump is in place. Coolant was GREEN Todd!
Had to refill what was lost with plain water because didn't find coolant at the moment. I will flush the coolant later next week to put in Dexcool.
A question arose after the 1.5 hour work:
The WP metal impeller was from GMB and when you spindle it by hand it didn't keep rotating. The old WP did that but you could feel like a bad bearing when doing that. The mechanic said that was normal for new pumps to act that way. What do you think?

Why are you going to put in Dexcool? You should stick with the green if that's what was already in there. I've heard you can do dexcool if you switch to it while your engine is real real young, but otherwise stay green.

Ok man! I will use the GREEN stuff. I thought Dexcool was like the upgrade for the cooling system. My bad.

False! Guess again.
Well I've been wrong before, ask my wife!
However, I had RED ethylene glycol (NOT DEXCOOL)
in my Toyota P/U.
I did say SOME are just color. Well, at least it wasn't a repost!!
But now, to add confusion, remember, not all Green antifreeze is ethylene glycol either. .
Color IS just color. The base antifreeze is colorless and the color is used for brand identity. Like gasoline. Like Fuel oil. In NJ, the fuel oil is dyed to show it is non taxable fuel oil rather than taxable deisel fuel even though both are similar (you can run #2 fuel oil in a diesel engine, even though some of the additives are missing).
Just found an article on this:
Antifreeze info
Quote:
Toyota uses a red antifreeze in many of its products and should not be confused with the orange type long life antifreezes. it is essentially the green type of antifreeze that contains red dye to give it the red color.
Hope this isn't a repost too....
So Buzzzzzz My answer was TRUE. So there!!!
HaHa, I love internet discussions.

Yeah I caused my son grief with his Power Stroke diesel. Havoline's orange is Dexcool their red is the ethylene glycol. It's orange and green arguement. Dexcool is a no no for the Power Stroke, cavitation or something. Live and learn no matter how old you are. Thought Toyota use to use purple coolant, it cost about 4-5 times more than green????? Early 90's I switched to Dexcool after two years in my 98 Duratech, Havoline's coolant engineer told me the only concern about switching was not having a totally flushed system, otherwise the refill time went back to one year. Same as the ethylene. I have an old 89 Probe I switched over to Dexcool and now 3 years later it's still clean and PH tests show it's still safe. My original reason for switching was because the Dexcool's supposed to tranfers heat better than ethylene glycol. Don't remember the exact Mr. Wizard science (something similiar to adding "water-wetter") behind the process, but as I recall the Duratech's head design/coolant passage needed as much help as possible? Also I have solar collectors on my house and after switching to Dexcool in my domestic hotwater system I noticed an increase in heat transfer rate. Anyhow my sorta semi-official test proved to me it worked. Of course straight water transfers heat even more efficiently, HOWEVER that little 32 degree F change of state problem. Paul
