I don't think the San Bernardino mountains are in Minnesota...but that's ok, just don't yell at me.
Those are nice cars, but I do prefer the 95-98 body style. I'm just not a huge fan of the big, bubbly looking body of the new VWs. I would like to hear a turbo though...

Um no. Horsepower: 180 hp Torque: 173 ft-lbs. Gross Weight: 3836 lbs. 0-60 is identical to the SVT due to the power coming full on at 1950 RPM. Line up with an SVT with good drivers and it will be a drivers race but I'd put my $ on the SVT. Just look at the weight of the car alone. Now when you starting modifying the 1.8 it will smoke an SVT.

Well, I've driven both and I definitely feel the GTI is faster. They're supposed to be about 1/2 a second faster than the SVT in 1/4 mile time.

TQ will do that. Numbers will show differently. The 180hp 1.8T has a 0-60 time of 6.5 some magazines have only been able 2 acheive 7.2 though. SVT is rated at 6.9. Tell me how a car about 500 lbs. heavier than the SVT with less HP and slightly more TQ is going to be 1/2 faster?

Congrats on the purchase, a good one indeed It looks like the R32, but I bet the price doesn't look like the R32

Here in great ol Iowa, suprisingly no snow as of yet, but we do have plenty of cold and frost to pass along. Looking outside, can't see through windows on my car.

Just checked temp 7a: 18°F (wind chill: 9°F)
Anchorage, Alaska 4a: 37°F (wind chill: 29°F)

Real great, we're colder than Alaska.....

Edit: timezone difference, wasn't thinking...

These cars do not weigh 3800 lbs. Hence the confusion. And since many are running high 14s and trapping around 94mph stock, I wouldn't put my money on the SVT so fast.
