Welcome to the VW boat. I love your car, I personally would have gotten Impola, just cuz I think black is hard to keep looking consistantly nice. If you havent already done so, you should hit up the forums on VW Vortex.

What are your impressions of this car in comparison to the SVT? Obviously the quality, fit and finish are WAY better on the VW but.........how do you feel it compares in terms of power, handling, smoothness, and overall drivability? And if it's a stick, what do you think of the shifter feel/action and clutch compared to the SVT? I'm sure you are digging the scream of that turbo!
Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

So you've driven one? I know the differences on paper, I wanted a real world assessment from an owner. Thank you for the input either way.

Power.. much more. It just feels a lot faster, and there's nothing like hearing the turbo . Handling, I'd have to say stock vs. stock it's pretty close, but I had roush springs & ST200 struts on my SVT and that definitely gave it an advantage over the GTI. For overall drivability I'd give the edge to the GTI. I simply love driving this car, first and second gear are so much fun, I get slightly better gas milage, and 6th gear is too perfect on the highway. I sold my SVT to a local friend of mine, so I know it's getting taken care of. I'm a real happy camper .

Um no. Horsepower: 180 hp Torque: 173 ft-lbs. Gross Weight: 3836 lbs. 0-60 is identical to the SVT due to the power coming full on at 1950 RPM. Line up with an SVT with good drivers and it will be a drivers race but I'd put my $ on the SVT. Just look at the weight of the car alone. Now when you starting modifying the 1.8 it will smoke an SVT.
