Critics hated it of course. It's getting mixed reviews from the public from what I can tell.

OMFG IT WAS THE WORST ONE YET.....(there are spoilers ahead so if you want to see the movie to bad, it's not worth the 6.50)
It was the worst one yet. it had no place being in thearters, everything was over done in the bad way, the [censored] buble effect of the water, the face, the physocology 101 crap. The way trinity died was the most hillariuse thing i've ever seen. And i'm happy she's dead i'm happy it's over. They took my faivorite movie of all time and ruined it. they took it, put it in a bleander drank it, [censored] it out, combined it with thier piss lit it on fire and then force fead it to me. and that was only reloaded, revolutions was like 20 times worse then that. i hated it so much i want to go back in time and kill everyone that worked on the matrix so that reloaded and revolutions won't ever happen. there i'm now done. but i'll still hate it. it will be the worst thing i've seen in my life. and i feel bad for the future kids who see revolutions or reloaded and think the original was that same [censored] steaming pile of crap.

Ebert (The fat guy) gave it 3-stars out of 4.
Saw the Matrix II on IMAX and I was blown away! Plan on seeing it over Thanksgiving on IMAX, theatre will be quiet as I hate a full theatre.

They definently got progressively worse, with a very sharp plummet with this one.
But, I can't say I'm surprised. The first one did not do well because it was an incredible movie that really made you think; it did well because it was a really cool action movie. And, of course Hollywood would want to stick with that.
Each movie got progressively less philosophical and more action-oriented. And this one seems almost thrown together -- even the continuity doesn't seem very good.
It's very dissapointing that the brothers would be such sell-outs.
EDIT: Actually, as I sit here thinking about it, this one fell short on both accounts -- action and philosophy. It wouldn't be such a dissapointment as a stand-alone movie, but the fact that this was supposed to be the 'great conclusion', it was a really horrible let-down.
It didn't really 'answer any questions', it seemed to avoid anything at all that would cause one to actually think, and there was virtually no philosophical undertones at all. Everything was so blatant and basic.
It was like "Here we're going to talk about Choice" and "This is why we talk about Choice" and "This is what we mean when we're talking about Choice".
No thinking. No critical thought. No leaving the theatre pondering the greater meaning of anything/everything.
It was as dumbed-down as a C-grade remake of Fast and Furious.

just got back from seeing it and i thought it was pretty good. better than reloaded but not as good as the first...which would be almost impossible to replicate much less top.
the battle for zion was insane. there were some slow parts but overall it wrapped up this part of the series pretty well imo. they did leave the door open for more to come. there's too much money left to be made off of this movie concept.
agent smith was cracking me up. he was talking mad sh!t throughout the whole movie. when he found the oracle, he straight lost it with the whole cookie bit.
i'm still digesting and trying to make sense out of some of the dialogue but i'm glad i went to see it for myself instead of taking other peoples opinions of it.
