It is way cheaper then a car payment. Almost everyone I know keeps telling me to buy another car. I mean, why? I mean it's way cheaper to fix it then buy something else.
I just bought a house earlier this year, and paying for that alone doesn't leave much room for another car. If I did buy another I'd buy the same kind of car as what I'm driving now. Another Contour.
(It was nice to be able to fix the car before it broke down on the side of the road. I have been towed 5 times this year so far, and hope I don't need to be towed again).

It can reach a point where the cost of repairs & inconvenience will justify a new car. You don't seem to be there yet.
Once the ball joints start to go or you see the road through your floor boards, its time for a new car!
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

funny you mention seeing the road thru the floor boards. My friend who repairs my car, he has this big, ugly truck, the box in the back is all smashed up, like it just came out of the demo derby, the cab inside is horrible. I ruined a t-shirt of mine in the cab because he had spilled paint and he didn't know it hasn't dried yet. And you pretty much can see the road thru the floor boards. It's such a pile of junk. His friends tell him all the time it's time to get another vehicle, I asked him why don't you listen to your friends? Right now he has a truck from CA that he wants to use parts off, or something like that.
I would like another car, but I'll just end up making repairs on another car.
