Hi,
My local audio retailer has some MTX Thunder 10" subs for $39 each. I don't know much about them, other than the fact that they're very inexpensive. They seem to me to be sorta junky, but I wanted some opinions to verify my hunch.
They are rated at 200w max, which as far as I know would be more than enough for my listening tastes and listening levels. I plan to run a sub in a small enclosed box (no band-pass or port) so that I can get a nice, tight bass sound.
There are also some pioneer subs on sale for $89 each (10", model TS-w254c). Rated at 500w max. If any of you have some feedback about these subs, please let me know -- it would be much appreciated, as the sale isn't on forever!
Thanks again, Brian

Try to stay away from ten inch woofers if you want some serious kick. I have 2 10" rockford fosgate subs and there are ok but Im setting up to pick up some 12" Kickers or 12" rockfords. It all depends on your listening pleasure. I would go with 12's.

I guess John brought up an interesting point -- my musical taste.
I listen, mostly, to jazz, rock, and some hard rock (metallica, for example).
I'm not looking for bass that shakes the car, just that fills the car with a nice low sound. I don't want to eat up too much trunk space, so I was thinking either a single 10 or 12 in a small box.

Get a Kicker L7 Solobaric 10in' square sub. I have that and a Kicker amp in my car and it sounds really good.

I had 3 jl 10w3's for my last system and they hit very hard tight and accurate. were installed in a 2.18 cubic ft common chamber enclosure. I had a crossfire 1000d on them and was able to do a consistant 145.5 db at the windshield as well as have crystal clear sound quality

I listen to the same music you do but i like the hip hop that the teenagers are calling it  With hard rock like Korn Naptallica and stuff like that 2 10" inch sub should do you just fine. Try to get some good quality ones though because if you pump it as much as i do you will go through cones like they are water. Good luck....Keep us posted

I've heard the MTX 10s you mentioned in a ported box. They were barely able to put out MIDbass with any volume. I would stay away from those.

Dave, I was thinking the Credence 10" at PE, but already did a search this morning.
Jazz, how much did you want to spend of your sub(s) and how space do you want to take up in your trunk?

I'll sell you my 12" Clarion! The VC is warped and it makes a scratching noise when it's running, but it still works and you can have it for $500 and I'll even throw in the box!
