i think they're awesome..but it's a little pricey,i mean it has over 200,000 miles on it-- how long do rotary engines last? if they're really dependable, then maybe go for it..i've heard they're nice driving cars, though (i'd go for 3rd gen., just cuz looks..but these can be fixed up to look pretty nice too)
out of RX-3s,4s,7s, and 8s, the 2nd gen. 7s are my least fav body style though..sorry- just my opinion

If you trust the work that was done to the car, it is a fair price. 50k miles on a 13b rebuild is young. I wonder how many miles total on the engine. I question the exhaust, though. Pretty much anything except Racing Beat is loud and won't last too long

That would be about $2500 USD. If the car is sound inside and out, miles aren't a big deal on these engines when work is done right.

My big check on this car would be rust. Take a good look EVERYWHERE (under the car, under any and all carpeting you can see, in the spare tire area. If the car is rust free, and not just redone to remove rust, you're in good shape. The inside would be the same... look over everything well, if it's in good shape, you'll be fine. If the leather needs to be redone, that's not a big deal. However, if the plastic pieces are damaged... start talking reductions.

Next check is to see how this car has been maintained since day 1. Maintenance is critical on rotaries, so if it has been done properly, you're in luck.

If everything looks good, get a compression test done as part of a machanic's check from a garage specializing in rotaries.

If all this has a clean bill of health, then I would recommend buying it. I'm not fond of the exhaust myself, but the price leaves enough room for a MazdaTrix replacement.

By the way, this is the 1st generation RX-7 he is considering. I have always considered the 2nd gen to be the most gorgeous RX-7, though admittedly more aimed towards touring than sport. The 3rd gens, while a great sports car, suffer from bland styling. I would love to find an old RX-3 or RX-4... but good luck!

James, you think the 3rd gen has bland styling? I suppose without the factory body kit, but many people think the 3rd gen is the sexiest vehicle ever made.

I sure do, especially without a body kit. It's just the 13B turbo I don't really like. With an LS1 swap, it sounds just about perfect

Well, I would think an LS1 swap would ruin the balance and dynamics of the car...

I know a lot of people love the Gen3 styling. I just happen to have different taste, and I think the Gen3 badly needed some creases or moldings to break up the monotony of the sheet metal. The car's lines just don't carry it because there really aren't any lines.

Oh well...

I like rx7s, and the best looking ones are from Japan after they stopped making them here. A guy had one imported in town and it looked better than just about any car out there.

Actually, compared to the TT 13B the LS1 swap doesn't change the balance or handling at all. Throw on some head and cams and you have a reliable 400hp/tq that's similar in weight and gets better mpg. Check out www.hinsonsupercars.com for an example.
