To save some cash and get an upgrade over the stock speakers I'm trying to piece together an inexpensive component system from Parts Express.
So far, here's what I've come up with:
299-100 Attitude 6.5" Woofer - 2 @ $15 265-342 Ultimate 1/5" Titanium Tweets - $18 269-668 Ultimate 2-way X-over - @ @ $5
For a grand total of ~ $58
Anybody with experience/opinions on any of these components? Any worthwhile, yet cost effective, upgraded components? Recommendations, thoughts...

Go to www.zalytron.com. Buy the focals for $129. That is what everyone(dnewma04) has been recomending lately. I am going to buy some in the next few months.

My friend bought some Vifa midrange speakers and their tweeters all together for around $120. They sound GREAT. He ordered them from www.Madisound.com

What are you going to be powering them with?
Since you already have the bass covered, I really like #299-248. Smaller, but I bet you $50 they sound significantly better than the ones you listed. The tweeter looks good, just have to decide if you want the titanium as some people find it harsh.
I'm using a pair of those crossovers and are a hella deal.
I know you wanted to go cheap, but the Vifa's are no doubt far better speakers.

Or get the Vifa speaker listed on the www.madisound.com website's "on-sale" page.

The Vifa's huh? I was thinking about those. I almost went with the 1" Ultimate titanium tweeters too.
But, I cheaped out today and ordered the components I listed. My wife has been nagging at me a bit as I've bought a pair of Audiobahn subs, a Focal 6.5" component set, an amp, and all sorts of other car stereo parts and accessories in the past month. It was all I could do to get this to fly under radar.
I guess I'll exchange the Attitude woofers for the Vifa's if I'm unhappy with them after an audition.
Renaldo18, get a pair of the x-overs I listed with my components if you do get the Focals and don't want to build your own x-over with the supplied components from zalytron.

Well, I guess I could build some with the thousands of dollars of Bose equipment I've got lying around.

I really think you should install light bulbs in series with your speakers as thermal protection. Bose speaker sound so good with them. I think they should make their cubes clear so they look good at christmas time.
