for the basic cheap swap:
find a low-miles 99+ 3l block.
fill 3 oil passages.
put your 2.5L oil pickup, baffle, and oil pan on it.
use your 2.5L heads, cams, etc.
use the 2.5L timing cover.
2.5L LIM, UIM, fuel rails.
grind of tab for alternator to fit
you *MIGHT* have to do a little grinding to make starter fit, i did.
i think thats pretty much it.
all you'll have to replace is oil pan gasket, head gaskets (MAKE SURE TO USE 3L GASKETS, NOT 2.5L). head bolts, valve cover gaskets, timing cover gaskets, uim and lim gaskets. and anything else that you break!
