OOD why are all the drag cars MTX trannys no they don't have to use their clutch to shift in a race car but that is cause of the straight cut gears most street driven cars have helical gears in them.... and about shift points if you set the car up right and know how to drive a car right you will know when to shift or have it set so you make power all the way to redline. it doesn't take me but a few runs through the gears after doing a new mod to know where my power band is. about your "loosing all your money" you know how much an ATX rebiuld runs if something where to happen to it???? around here about $3000 you know how much a clutch replacement for a MTX-75 tranny is about $1100.... in the MTX-75 with a LSD more than likley if something is gonna break in the tranny it will be the clutch wearing out... I know the escort MTX is not a MTX-75 and no clue if the ATX is the same as the contour's or not but if it is the same ATX good luck finding aftermarket parts for it cause there are non made for the CD4E
and what do Imports have to do with the MTX MTX trannys have been the choice of most racers going back to the original days of the ATX which would of been early 60's late 50's iirc.

not to mention MTX is just a hell of alot more fun
do you really want someone telling you when to shift and what gear to be in? what kind of skills does it take to mash the gas and hold on?

Nope, not the same ATX as our cars. And they raced FWD cars in the late 50s early 60s???

when i go to the track, which used to be weekly before i started the 3L swap, the majority of the race cars, the ones with roll cages, gutted interiors, tons of sponsors, and stickers, and massive drag slicks. the old muscle cars, the ones that run < 10 sec.
the majority of those cars have an AT (not atx). sure its a super built up one, but thats what they use!
now would i ratehr have an ATX over a MTX? not a chance. id trade my atx in a second for a mtx, they are so much more fun! just thought id point out the big time drag racers alot of times will chose an AT over a MT

Are "one speed" trannies consider autos? I saw an ebay venom 1000 viper with an auto swapped in, so I guess there's reasons for everything........

Now now Joe, the ATX would be beneficial in drag racing. If I were to bracket race, and my car still ran , I'd have a dial in at 10.85 (1/8th mile-we're poor rednecks) and I'd run just slightly over that consistantly. I ran three runs over the course of 2 hours once, 10.863, 10.864, 10.863. If I were in a bracket race, with a dial in right around there, how well do you think I would have done? Sure the 5-speed is more fun, but to set it and forget it and run the same time all night ain't too shabby. [Commence ranting process] How long have there been two different trannies? How long has this debate gone on? There are advantages to both MTX, MT, ATX, and AT. Stop arguing about this. It's old, weak, and played out. It wastes a lot of time. I see this same argument almost every month in some magazine, SCC or NOPI or MMFF or whatever. It pops up on here every couple months. I've seen it on dozens of TV shows, too. It's pretty damn annoying. [/Ranting process terminated]

Yeah, what was I thinking? I bought a car with a big trunk and a 135A alternator from the factory. What was I thinking?
