I'm waiting on four Pioneer 6X8 Plate speakers I got for 99 a pair. I have a Pioneer Premier 720 head unit. I'll be bypassing my factory amp later today, it was hell finding the correct bypass. I'm looking for good clear sound, will I get it with this set-up.

Where did you locate the bypass connectors ?
I would like to by-pass the factory amp as well. I was actually told by an installer that the factory amp was pretty good and I should leave it in !!

Everything I was ever told was that the amp sucks. I bought my amp bypass wiring harness from Crutchfield. $17 and change to my door. I'm not sure if its correct, but I'll find out tonight. E-mail me and i'll give you details tomorrow. Aureius@hotmail.com

I don't know the part number, but give them a call and I'm sure they can help you out.

I've got the Pioneer plates in my truck. They sound very good for a coaxial-type of speaker, but they really sing when powered with a modest amp.

You might want to consider only installing them in your front doors.

Put that other $100 towards a 4ch amp and a free-air sub for the rear deck. With an extra $50 or so, you can get a dramatically improved system.

You'll probably notice little or no difference replacing the rear door speakers.

Just some thoughts...

BTW, the factory amp sucks. You've made the right choice bypassing it.

As some of you know, I just put in my new deck a couple of nights ago...

Here are my thoughts:

1) You don't have to to get the plates --
I started my stereo mod the 'other' way. I got the speakers first (Pioneer TS-6865 3-ways). 2 pairs, and that made a nice difference over the stock speakers. With the stock stereo, the sound was noticeably better.

2) Once I put my HU in (JVC mp3), I noticed how phenomenal car audio can be. My sound is great, and that's just with 4 nice door speakers and a new HU.

3) BYPASS THE AMP! It will take a lot of work if you don't buy the 'exact' harness, if it exists. I bought a kit, last digits are 4514, or 5414 or something. Same on all brands of harness. It's a bypass kit with a couple of cables which give you two options. a) Bypass the amp b) go through the amp. The kit also included a power harness.

The kit was great, cuz it meant I could do an install which wouldn't cut into the factory wires, and leave me able to put the stock system back together easily.


Anyway - good luck with the system. It should sound great the way you've got it set up. You can always upgrade later.

You have to call crutchfield and order it. They don't have it up on the website. Your gonna get about eight ten foot cables plugged into a harness. The harness goes into the large connection the the amp. The other end is open. I fed the connector of the harness from the back of the radio to where the amp connector was. I wrapped it in the electrical tape adn when I felt I had the right length I cut the rest of the wires off. This left me abotu eight seven foot cables. I then pulled the harness all the way out and fed the wires back thru the dash the way I wanted them togo. The harness connector would fit where I wanted it togo. You connect the loose wires directly to the speaker wires on the head unit. My Pioneer headunit and the harness had the exact same colors, I believe they are standardized now.

At highway speed I have to turn the radio up almost all the way to hear it but it is a better sound with less distortion. My Pioneer plates will be here today hopefully and I may install them tonight. I may think about and amp later but for now its fine.
