First of all, the only Trans Am that ever had a V-6 was the 25th Anniversary model made in 1989, it had a hi-po turbo V-6. So right off the bat the guy you raced lied. The 1996 Trans AM came with an LT1 V-8 (de-tuned corvette motor) putting out 285hp and 325 tq. Nonetheless, 13 flat in the 1/4 for this car without a cat is very hard to believe. Was it a manual or an automatic? Either way he must have had some mods done to it to run a 13.
I would believe the 1989 vs. 1996 because it was old looking. It was auto from what I could see looking in. The first gear was killer. It just killed the guy in the GTP. I raced him during midnight madness(run what you brung)at the Maryland International Raceway. He did about three runs and then left. Oh, I forgot to mention he didn't want anybody looking under the hood either. Definitely had something to hide. True car enthusiast to me don't do things like that.

If indeed he did have a 1989 Trans Am V-6 turbo in good running condition, I suppose a 13 second 1/4 mile is *possible*. The car ran a 13.4 stock from the factory, so removing the cat could possibly bring that time down to 13, again, if the car was in perfect running condition. However, the fact that he didn't want anyone to peek under the hood suggests he may have had some sneaky mods lurking under there. Then again, maybe he just didn't want to reveal that it was a turbo V-6, that way he could stick with his "oh, it's got a V-6" line and not technically be lying. :-)
P.S. All the 1989 turbo Trans Am's were white, was his?

No, the color was brown with a light brown sports stripe at the level of the door handle. Not t-top, but hard top. I asked him before we raced, "What do you have under the hood" and his reply was "Just a V-6 with the cat removed". I am not familiar with the trans am's, so I couldn't smell the bs right off. It also had Trans Am written on the bottom near the rear tires.

89 Trans Am had a revised version of the Buick Grand National Turbo V6...I believe it was the Buick engine with Pontiac heads. It had a 3.8 liter SFI fuel injected V6, with turbocharger and intercooler. With a computer-controlled Garrett turbocharger set at a maximum boost of 16.5 psi, this THM 200-4R four speed automatic transmission-equipped V6 develops 250 horsepower at 4400 rpm and a maximum torque of 345 ft. lbs. These numbers are believed to be very underated as they were on the Grand National as well. GM doesn't like anything to have better numbers then the Corvette. Stock 13.4's are very common. I have seen them run 12's pulling the front wheels off the ground with slicks and very little mods at the track. They are fast cars and yes only came in white with gold emblems. Ever ride in a Buick Grand National...my brother had one and they too were real fast just not very aerodynamic. Put that motor and then some in a very aerodynamic car and look out. Tons of aftermarket parts for them as well!

I don't think an LT1 F-Body is out of the league for a CSVT. I'd think someone like DemonSVT could give a mostly stock LT1 auto or an average driven 6 speed a solid run for it's money from a roll or from the dig (not in the first 100' though). I've beaten quite a few LT1 F-Bodys at my track (didn't crush them) and I've walkd a couple in highway runs. A few weeks back I ran a 97 Ram Air TA and beat him with a 14.4@98 to his 14.5@96. Dave
