DemonSVT, what does the above mean? I have heard this a few times, but can't say that I understand. Thanks!

More proof.

Twice the HP, 3 times the TQ and roughly the same top speed.

They are some damn fast bricks tho. I ran next to my cousins on the freeway. i can't keep up.

Drive axle ratio.

4.06 means that the differential input will turn 4.06 times as fast as the differential output.
This will have a direct effect on engine rpm and also be multiplied by the respective transmission gear ratio.

4.06 times the torque would be applied to the axles as well.
Then you factor in the actual gear ratios of the respective gears to get total torque multiplication factor.

In the case of 1st gear in the MTX-75 it would be 3.42 x 4.06 or 13.89 times the torque.

Example

350TQ engine in a 3500lb car with a 2.48 1st and 3.23 diff
8.01 x 350 / 3500 = .80 TQ per lb.

175TQ engine in a 3000lb car with a 3.42 1st and 4.06 diff
13.89 x 175 / 3000 = .81 TQ per lb.

Yep - aerodynamics are awesome.

I remember once lining up at the drag strip when the Cougar was a lot closer to stock. The car in the next lane was a crappy old Nova with a badly tuned v8 and glasspacks. I remember thinking "Well this guy's gonna hand my *ss to me."

The light changed and off we went. He pulled on me pretty steadily and was half a car length ahead till the 1/8, at which point I started reeling him in. At the finish, my front wheels were even with his doors. And I only hit like 86mph for the trap speed. Lol.

And since we're on the subject - don't forget that lowering springs also decrease drag significantly. I can tell a marked difference in responsiveness at highway speeds from having installed the H&R's last weekend. (They rock, btw.)

I've been thinking about putting on a rubber chin flap for an extra schosh of slipperiness.

Dan - lightweight brakes are next

All this aero talk is great but surely torque curve and rpm factor into this too The numbers aren't in front of me but our higher RPM's definitely help against GTPs and similarly slow twisting slugs.

These cars dont have a lot of low end grunt (ie torque), which usually comes from more displacement or forced induction. Also it is pretty hard to get a tour out of the blocks very quickly (wheel hop issues and just general setup), but once they get going, they move pretty good. I know my car really rips above 4500rpm.

Three liters are awesome - 5th is officially a passing gear for me.

Anyone know off hand what the drag coefficients for our cars are???

The drag and broad power band both play into the ability to 'reel people in' at higher speeds. These are great cars!
