I think we all know that it's different; the tensioner is in a different location. But why wont it work? I.e. is the belt different (size, shape, etc)? Will the PS or the alt not work? A/C wont bolt up? Will it hit the firewall or the side of the engine bay? Why is it that I have to switch?

I installed my old 3L hybrid (old style FEAD) in a 2001 Cougar (new style FEAD) that had motor with the new tensioner style and didn't have any problems.

Also I'm pretty sure it's going to work. I helped with an installation that took a 2001 2.5L from a Cougar into a '98 Tour. If what you guys are saying is true, then that 3L Escape motor with the same style FEAD should fit in my carā?¦

The 3M4Z oil pan will fit any year Duratec in the CDW-27 platform.

The upgraded YL8Z windage tray and pickup will fit any Duratec as long as the 2001+ main studs are also used.

So for my setup, stock 99 2.5 SVT, the new oil pan would be useless without the windage tray, right?

No the 3M4Z oil pan has drain back channels, better pan baffles, and more underside cooling grids.

Would I change it just to change it... Maybe.
Would I change it if I had it off anyway. Yes.

Sorry, David, but I can't answer your question. Never tried it out. Kudos to you if you want to try it out though. I would just hate to see you have to change the cover in the vehicle if it ends up a no-go.

Don't blame you for asking why, why, why. It's great for getting down to root causes sometimes.

No biggie. The tour isn't my primary car so I'm putting it back together slowly. I don't mind having to yank out the motor if it doesn't fit with this front cover. Just wondering why everyone seems to say no it doesn't work, but not have a reason as to why it wont work.

So it looks like I'll be the first to try it.

What are you asking will fit? I'd just change over the 2.5 stuff to the 3L and be done with it.

Well thas the thing, I don't have a 2.5 to my disposal. I would have to buy the parts or find a non-running motor. Which is why I'm trying the full swap.

You will have clearance issues with the 3L valve covers hitting the hood unless you hack the oil cap which I saw someone do. I just used my 2.5. THe UIM looks similar in dimension to the Taurus one so you'll only know when you're bolting everything up. Might have to alter some areas but it should work. Also the Escape sensors and the Tour harness will have to be spliced.

I acutally kept my old valve covers, they were painted blue to match my car and would have looked a little funny in a grey cougar.

Sensors that I have to splice in:
Oil pressure switch
Knock Sensor
Crank Angle
Cam Angle

The one thing that has me worried is the intake, I'm hoping the idle control and the TPS run off of the same voltages. Then theres the EGR and the DPFE, I'm not sure how I'm going to do that just yet.
