The thermostat I replaced the original one with was a 180 degree from Autozone and looked nothing like the old one. It did not have the hole with the little BB in it. The AZ one had a BB in the center ring that moved around. Does the thermostat have to go in a certain direction to make it work correctly? I am wondering if this is what is making the car run hotter than usual.

By the way the thermostat for the Contour is 195 degrees not 180.
